Pet Peeve #436
Negative Nelly's. You know who you are--you who can foresee no solution to the problem; you who can shoot down any possible suggestion as being ineffectual or impossible.
Take as an example the following scenario: two friends are planning a trip. One friend is on a limited budget, but is realistic and straightforward about said budget (and it's not a bad budget, I might add, not that I'm part of this story, but if I was... Well, you know...). Other friend completely shoots down budget and vehemently states there is no way a trip could be planned for such an amount. Friend #1 goes out and finds trips and tours for said amount, and presents them to friend #2. Friend #2 continues to deny plausibility of trip and to find any and every fault with plans made by friend #1.
Friend #1 starts to think a trip with friend #2 is not so much fun.
Sigh.

perhaps this is friend #2's passive aggressive way of indicating to friend #1 that she doesnt want to be friends anymore.
-jenny (who would NEVER do this. because she would NEVER EVER go on a trip with a friend. because this sort of thing occurs.)
Mmm, no, I don't think so. I think it's just that friend #2 is wearing her negaitve pants.
Perhaps friend #2 is feeling unhappy about something or is getting cold feet. Or perhaps she wanted to go more hardcore on the trip and is annoyed by limited budget because of that. Perhaps she wanted to go fancier. Perhaps you (I mean friend #1) could suggest a framework for trip that fits in your budget, but leave room for extra spending above that. So friend #1 might take $200 for spending, and friend #2 could go crazier. Maybe there are days where the friends can do things on their own time, according to budget.
Also, make friend #2 pay for drinks.
But then, friend #3 can be annoying always suggesting things too.
Trips with friends can be trying, but oh so good! Do not get down, dear Frances.
